Do they know they took away my only mobility? Do they care?
Today is July 9, 2021, on May 26, 2021 the company that provided my #wheelchair 🦼 picked up the chair to do some repairs. It has been 6 weeks and I still do not have the chair back! As if that isn’t bad enough, yesterday I was told by a representative that they are still waiting on approval from the hospital to go forward with the repairs and once they receive approval it will be another 2-3 weeks before the repairs are completed! #WTH! 😡😡😡 Now, you may wonder why is the hospital paying for these repairs, that’s a post for another time but for now, that’s the least they can do.
WHY, WHY WHY is this acceptable? I realize they have other clients and other repairs to do but, I tried, I specifically stressed to the wheelchair company that I am a #little person (a.k.a. #dwarf) and therefore I am unable to manually push myself in a manual wheelchair and that the motorized wheelchair is my ONLY source of mobility, their response, “I’m sorry.” Do these people understand what that means for me? Do they realize that if my Honey goes to the store and I’m home alone and there is a fire 🔥 that I’m stuck with no way out! Do they realize, do they care?
What am I to do? How do I stress the urgency? I call my lawyer who unfortunately is also out of the office due to his wife being ill and himself suffering with an acute herniated cervical disc and no one in my lawyer’s office returns my calls. I’m alone in this battle, I’m alone in this fight, I’m alone.
Being a little person also presents many other issues and challenges, for example, not having my customized motorized wheelchair which has a shorter seat depth which allows my legs to be slightly bent instead of straight out. For the last 3 nights I had such severe sciatica pain that I was unable to sleep and needed to wake up my Honey every hour to hour and half to readjust me. The pain was so severe the only relief was when I would sit up for a few minutes. Granted, being #paralyzed doesn’t make sleeping 😴 easy but I have not had to wake up my Honey in middle of the night. several times a night. Could this severe pain be the result of not having my custom motorized chair and being forced to have my legs totally straight out in front of me, not bent for 6 weeks/45 days and counting? Could more damage be happening? How long will I suffer? How many times I am forced to accept the consequences of other’s mistakes?
