I was reading one of my favorite blogs today, Jenny Smith Rolls On, and was struck by her most recent blog post “Why Visitability Needs to Be Considered When Building or Remodeling a Home” where she shared an article she had written for Bard Care titled “Visitability.” Click the image below to read the article.
I understand this all too well as there are several of my family members’ homes that I know I will never again be able to enter, never again be able to see their Christmas tree, never again be able to be invited to dinner, etc.
Accessibility, to date, hasn’t been in the forefront of most new home builders but if enough attention is given to this topic, maybe someday, accessible access/entrance will be the standard.
As always, I wish you days filled with WONDER – take a minute to WONDER what it is that made you smile today!

I totally agree that all homes should be accessible to all regardless if the need is evident at the time. I hope that we see more and more homes built this way. My home, for instance, is totally “inaccessible”. That bothers me more now that my mom has difficulty just coming or going with the number or stairs we have. And as you said, you can’t come here anymore either. When we move, within the next year, I will be sure to remedy this.
This blog was much needed and hopefully will encourage builders, home buyers and even renters to consider this.
