Pre COVID vs. Post COVID…What’s Changed

With more and more people being vaccinated and more and more restrictions being lifted, , I started to think, what’s actually changing and who will see changes? What does returning to “normal” life really mean and for who?

On average, the country was on lockdown for most people for approximately 15 months or approximately 455 days. For me, my lockdown started on June 21, 2016, 5 years ago, 60 months ago or 1,825 days ago, that fateful day when surgery gone wrong left me #paralyzed from my waist down, forever forced to live out my life in a #wheelchair 👩‍🦽

During lockdown people were forced to create and/or learn new ways of doing things, new ways to communicate with family, friends and new ways to conduct business. Whether it was Zoom, Facetime, Microsoft Team Meetings or one of the many other communication tools that became our primary way of “getting together.” For the first time in 5 years, I actually was part of the “normal” way of living again! Everyone was having their groceries delivered, me too,! everyone was chatting via a computer screen, me too,!, everyone was attending events on a computer, me too! One major difference, I had 5 years experience of isolation, limited face-to-face interaction with family/friends so I didn’t struggle like most everyone else struggled.

Today most people are excited to be able to go into the grocery store 🛒, I can’t unless someone drives me there, most people are excited to return to the beaches/pools 🏖️, I can’t unless someone physically brings me there, most people are eager to jump in their cars 🚗 and meet family/friends for a drink 🍷 🍹🍺 or movie, I can’t unless someone brings me there, etc., etc., etc. So once again, while everyone is returning to their normal life, I’m once again pushed back into my normal life of isolation and loneliness. People no longer call  📞 just to talk, people no longer text 📱 as often to say hi, and no one will think to come over to visit because their too busy rejoicing being able to be out ‘n about.

As always, I wish you a journey filled with exploring new people, places and things – take time to learn from and enjoy each new adventure along your way!

  1. I wish things were different for you. I wish there was a way to have you walk again. But my wishes will go unattainable.like I wish Al fingers, mobility normal and pain free, yet they are not going to happen. But I still pray for you both and hope for some wishes to come true
